Sahel Lodge
24-key boutique hotel, Niamey
The project
Sahel Lodge grew from a simple conviction: Sahelian hospitality does not need to imitate Dubai to be high-end. The project reinterprets the traditional Hausa courtyard as a sequence of planted patios that naturally cool the circulation spaces.
The stabilised earth façade, cast on site, filters the low evening light and cuts solar gain by 40% compared with an equivalent glazed façade. All 24 rooms open onto a private garden.
The gesture
A 3.60 m structural grid, a single load-bearing material, and an inhabited roof terrace turned into a panoramic restaurant. All furniture was custom-designed and built by Niamey cabinetmakers.
